Introducing our new Generator Salesman!

For the last 12 years, Jon Moss has been the sole UK Director (Managing Director) for an American owned computer networking, server and telephonic resale company called AECI UK Ltd. Prior to that, Jon worked within the specialist sports car industry for Westfield Sports Cars as a Sales Executive for over 5 years where he showcased the company’s production facilities by showing potential new clients around the car production line, assessed the customers’ requirements in order to build the bespoke order around their needs and demonstrated the products at specialist track days.

Jon said “I am genuinely excited about my role with Gunn JCB. The historical association that Gunn JCB have with JCB themselves made it a very simple decision to join the company, when the position was offered to me. With the size of Gunn JCB, it puts the company in such a unique position to offer existing and future clients the best possible level of customer service, I couldn’t wait to get involved. This is a bit of a departure from my previous industries which have been mainly in the computer networking and telephonic industries, but I can see the massive influence that backup generators will play in our future as a company and as a country. With the increase in population and the decrease in excess electricity supplies, there could come a time where every home has some form of back up facility. So to be involved in it from a relatively early stage is exciting. With the advent of the Inteli-Hybrid Generator range, we are able to offer a greener, more fuel efficient and quieter range which will continue to develop for years to come. I look forward to working at Gunn JCB for a long time to come and adding my sales and management skills to an already excellent team will only benefit the organisation going forward.”

JCB takes Hi-Viz Loadall concept to new heights with NEW 540-180

JCB is today launching a new 18 metre Loadall model with the unveiling of the 540-180 HiViz – expanding what is already the world’s biggest range of telescopic handlers.

The 540-180 offers greater performance and lifting capability than its 17 metre stablemate the 540-170 – despite being 20% smaller in overall dimensions. Its launch brings to 30 the number of Loadall models in the range.

The 540-180 HiViz has been specifically built to meet the needs of rental companies and contractors, offering reduced cost of ownership, faster cycle times and best in class visibility, with improved lift height and increased forward reach. At just 2.35m wide and 6.26m long it is possible to move two machines on a single curtain sided truck or low loader, reducing transport costs.

The new Loadall offers a:

– 5% improvement in lift height

– 10% greater forward reach

– 50% lower SAE serviceability rating

– 50% service cost saving over 1,000 hours

– 20% faster cycle times

Increased capacity

The 540-180 Loadall is the latest addition to JCB’s popular HiViz range of telehandlers, boasting a lift height of 17.5m and a maximum forward reach of 13.5m. That’s a 5% increase in working height over the current 540-170 with a 2,500kg load at full height, plus a 10% increase in forward reach. At just 11,330kg however the new model is 7% lighter than its stablemate, thanks to a strengthened four-stage, chain-driven boom and improved chassis construction.

The synchronised boom design provides smooth and precise boom movements with faster extensions and retraction, to improve overall cycle times. A regenerative Smart Hydraulic system on the optional single lever control uses gravitational force to aid lower and retract functions, also reduces energy required during operation. The chain driven boom, which uses an innovative chain adjustment system for reduced maintenance, also allows for a reduced hydraulic pump capacity with no loss of productivity. Indeed the 540-180 delivers 12% greater efficiency when placing a load, offering speed without compromising performance or safety. The telehandler is also equipped with ground-level tie-down points for easier transportation.

The 540-180 is powered by JCB’s proven SmartPower Tier 4 Final EcoMAX diesel engine, delivering 55kW (74hp) with no requirement for a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) additive, reducing operating costs for the customer. This drives through a four-speed JCB Powershift transmission with a maximum travel speed of 29kph.

The entire driveline is designed and built by JCB and this vertical integration and innovative use of power through Smart Hydraulics, ensures that the 540-180 is both productive and efficient, using up to 10% less fuel. This single source philosophy extends to service and parts supply, ensuring maximum uptime for JCB customers, while the ability to de-emission the engine allows the machine to be resold worldwide, boosting residual values.

The machine benefits from an incredibly low boom pivot point, delivering a 20% improvement in visibility over the boom. The multi-lever command control hydraulic system is common with the popular 540-140, delivering precise load placement and controllability. The optional single-lever electric servo control is light and easy to operate, with minimal arm movement for reduced operator effort. The machine comes with a hydraulic pressure release button in the cab, to vent the hydraulic service and make it easier to change attachments.

The JCB Loadall side-engine design provides easy access to regular maintenance points, while the diesel tank filler irecessed into the cab structure for added protection and accessibility. With the low-maintenance boom design, no DPF and 500-hour service intervals, the 540-180 has a best-in-class SAE service rating, offering a 50% service cost saving over many competitors over a 1,000 hour operating period. The machine is also equipped as standard with JCB’s LiveLink telematic system and an immobiliser.

JM Builders adds their first JCB JZ140 to their fleet

3JM Builders, based in Stoke, have just purchased a new JCB JZ140 to help with their building and groundwork services.

This is the first JCB machine that JM Builders has added to their fleet, with their existing fleet consisting of Volvo and Yanmar machines.

Jon Moss, the owner of JM Builders, said: “The JZ140 is a very nice machine and is very productive. The zero tail swing is an added bonus because we don’t tend to work on sites that are particularly constrained. However, we recently did a job on a confined site and it came into its own there. My operator has given me really good feedback and if he’s happy then it must be a good machine. Off the back of this positive experience, I am now considering a 2 tonne mini and a roller.”

The official document was signed in founder, Mr JCB’s old office which is located within the ‘Story of JCB’.

Haircuts and Heat for the Homeless

ged-king

Ged King owns Skullfades barber shop in Sale and provides free haircuts and meals to the homeless and homeless ex-servicemen in Manchester.

Ged has set up the Skullfades Foundation to provide funding for various projects in the community and so he can continue his work with the homeless. The funds raised will be used to aid the homeless through various different projects. Skullfades barber shop has been assisting the homeless in different ways. They give the homeless a free service that will hopefully give them more pride in their appearance, offer them support and inspire them to engage with other support services to build a more positive life for themselves. They also have a winter appeal and are looking for kind donations (particularly wooly hats and warm clothing) to donate to Manchester’s homeless community, especially as the weather is getting colder during these winter months.

We have donated 50 pairs of JCB wooly gloves to an organisation called the Mancunian Tribe that Ged works with, in and around Manchester, in order to help the homeless.

Even though Ged has managed to exceed his £5000 target and raise a massive £6,059, every penny helps. To help Ged continue to raise money for the homeless, please click here.

For more information about the work that Ged does for the community, visit the Skullfades‘ and the Mancunian Tribe‘s Facebook pages.
