LIGHTS, CAMERAS… ACCESS!
A fleet of JCB Access scissor lifts has landed a leading role for the premier supplier of access equipment to the television and film industry.
Solihull-based Media Access Solutions (MAS) has purchased 68 new JCB models – ranging from 19-39’ (5.9-11.9m) – for hire on high profile film and TV projects across the UK. They follow the successful performance of 27 existing JCB scissors in the MAS product line-up purchased in 2017. The new machines have played their part this year supporting filming operations on the sets of movies and series including Maleficent 2, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Netflix’s The Crown and Fantastic Beasts on sites such as Warner Brothers and Pinewood Studios.
“In our demanding industry, no feedback is good feedback and I have never had a single complaint about a JCB scissor lift. I trust and value the opinion of my engineers and they all say the JCB Access machines are a quality piece of kit. The battery life is great, the extra warranty is a bonus and the paint finish is second to none. The whole process with JCB and JCB Finance is fantastic. So simple, so quick, a few forms to fill in then the machines arrive. If I had the chance to start the business again, I would buy everything through JCB Finance. I wish I had known about the service when I was setting up.”
Tim Kendall | MAS Director
JCB Access offers nine electric scissor lift models with operating weights of between 2,930-7,420lb (1,330kg-3,366kg). The two smallest models (S1530e & S1930e) offer platforms measuring 5’4” (1.64m) long by 2’6” (0.76m) wide, while the majority of larger models use an 8’2” (2.5m) long platform. The largest S4550E model has an 8’ 8” (2.64m) long working area. The S1930E and S4046E models are outdoor rated for up to 28mph winds, giving an advantage over competitive models. The machines are also rated for basket capacities from 500lb (227kg) to a maximum of 1,212lb (550kg) and the electric scissors are powered by four 6V or 12V batteries, with hydraulic drive.
Media Access Solutions is a specialist supplier of lifting equipment to the TV and film industry, supporting set lighting and rigging services in studio or on location.
It offers a wide range of purpose built, black telehandlers, scissor lifts and cherry pickers – with 24/7, media experienced support. Depots close to major studios including: Pinewood, Shepperton, Elstree, Longcross, 3 Mills, Bottleyard Bristol, Media City Manchester, BBC Glasgow and ITV Leeds studios enhance the service to the sector.
JCB innovation leads the way in clean electric charging
JCB is launching a range of power packs to support its growing line of fully electric machinery – offering zero-emissions electrical back-up to remote and urban construction projects.
The maintenance power packs will feature:
- Zero-emissions electrical supply and back-up facility
- Four or eight batteries
- Outputs of 5kVA to 15kVA in single and three-phase
- Frequencies of 50Hz and 60Hz, across the UK, Europe and North America
- Robust, stackable 1.2m3 frame, with fork pockets for easy handling
Electric support
The JCB power pack range will be available with a choice of four or eight automotive quality, maintenance-free lithium-ion batteries. There is no requirement for daily checks, making them ideal for rental companies and contractors. The batteries’ depth of discharge is set to prolong the battery health and even after 2,000 full charge and discharge cycles (expected to be over 10 years), the batteries still have over 85% of their capacity left. The power packs will deliver power outputs of 5kVA to 15kVA, in both single and three-phase supply. With 50Hz or 60Hz frequency, the JCB power pack is suitable for customers in the UK, Europe and North America.
Packaged in a robust steel canopy, the JCB power pack can be recharged from a mains supply, or an on-site generator. It can then be positioned within emissions-sensitive areas, such as indoors or in tunnelling projects, to provide a zero-emission recharge facility for machinery like JCB’s E-TECH 19C-1E fully electric mini excavator. The power packs can also be used to deliver back-up electricity on site, for lighting and security during the night, when site generators may be turned off.
With compact 1.2m3 dimensions, the JCB power pack is supplied with fork pockets on each side of the steel canopy, to allow for easy on-site manoeuvrability. The units can be pallet mounted or stacked, to maintain a small footprint when space is at a premium.
JCB power packs provide a zero-emissions solution to varying on-site electrical demand, creating no noise or vibrations at the point of use and allowing longer operation of electrical tools and machinery in urban and emissions-sensitive areas. The power packs are a further demonstration of JCB’s leading role in the move towards a cleaner, low-emission future for construction equipment, building upon the growing range of JCB E-TECH electric machinery that will be available to customers.
JCB’s fast charge mini makes electric start to 2020
JCB will show the fast charge version of its first ever fully electric mini excavator at the Executive Hire Show 2020.
The 19C-1E can put in a typical full day’s shift for a mini excavator on a single charge – which takes just two hours with the fast charge option. Five times quieter than its diesel counterpart, the model is ideal for emissions and noise-sensitive applications.
Key features of the 19C-1E electric mini excavator include: three or four lithium-ion battery packs providing a 15-20kWh storage capacity, load-sensing hydraulic system delivering powerful digging performance, a sophisticated battery management system ensuring full-shift availability. A convenient on-board charger with capability for both 110V (12 hour recharge) and 230V (8 hour charge) comes as standard. The fast charge option, allowing a full charge in under 2 hours, is also available.
The 19C-1E will be joined by the larger JCB 86C-2 midi excavator which meets the forthcoming EU Stage V emissions regulations and benefits from a host of detail improvements, making the machine easier to maintain and to operate.
Also shown on the JCB stands will be an extensive line-up of equipment tailor-made for the rental industry. This will include the latest products from the JCB compact excavator, Loadall telescopic handler, site dumper, wheeled loader, attachments, light equipment, compaction and Access ranges.
Yellow among the slate
Based in Shropshire, our long-standing customer Ridgway Rentals is a leading plant hire company covering the whole of the UK, with over 50 years’ experience in the plant hire industry.
The company has expanded their fleet by purchasing a new JCB 427 Wheeled Loading Shovel with forks which will be used in the quarry of the world’s leading manufacturer of high quality slate. The machine will lift big slabs of slate and transport them to the processing plant where they will be cut down to size. The slate will then be used for a variety of applications such as: roofing; landscaping; paving, walling and architectural purposes.
Stuart Jones, Managing Director of Ridgway Rentals, is impressed with the machine and the customer service he has received from us:
“The smaller size of the 427 offers easy manoeuvrability around sites whilst still capable of high volume material handling – plus the built-in long service life and no need for DPF mean less down time for our customers. We have a long history of dealing with Gunn JCB and value the customer service they offer.”
Hot on the heels of this order, Ridgway Rentals will also be acquiring a new JCB 437 Wheeled Loading Shovel which will be going on hire to a concrete batching plant.
