GUNN JCB SECURES THE UKS BIGGEST JCB ELECTRIC MACHINE ORDER!
GUNN JCB has landed JCB’s biggest ever UK order for electric equipment after EMR, a global leader in sustainable materials, bought 50 electric Teletruk models in a deal worth more than £3 million.
EMR recycles over eight million tonnes of metals and plastics annually – anything from an aircraft carrier to a can. It has purchased the fleet of JCB electric Teletruk models for handling non-ferrous metals and end-of-life vehicles across its nationwide UK sites. Secured by Waste & Key Account Sales specialist Mark Slaymaker, the new fleet replaces an existing fleet of competitive diesel models.
“We believe we have a key role to play to help protect our planet for future generations. The switch to JCB electric Teletruks is one of a number of significant steps we have taken to reduce the carbon intensity of our business on our journey to be carbon net-zero by 2040. They are fantastic, productive machines that will make a positive difference to our fleet.”
Giles Mogg | EMR’s Regional Commercial Manager
The JCB 30-19E and 35-22E electric Teletruks are part of a new generation of innovative products from the JCB E-TECH range of equipment, which deliver zero emissions at the point of use without compromising performance. The forward reach electric forklifts feature a unique telescopic boom and are capable of a full 8-hour shift on a single charge. Their small turning circle and single side-loading capability make them more productive in materials handling work, inside and outdoors. The 35-22E boasts a max lift capacity of 3,500kg and a max lift height of 4.00m. At 2.00m, the lift capacity is 2,220kg. JCB Launches Articulated Boom Aerial Work Platforms with Enhanced Efficiency and Operator Access!
JCB is introducing two articulated boom aerial work platforms, with a choice of full battery electric and diesel/electric hybrid drivelines. The A45E and A45EH deliver increased efficiency, enhanced operator access and higher levels of monitoring to increase productivity for customers.
Key features include:
- Maximum platform height of 13.84m with 7.47m forward reach
- Battery electric or diesel/electric hybrid drivelines
- 300kg lift capacity
- Secondary guarding, puncture-proof tyres, slew lock and emergency override
- JCB LiveLink real-time remote monitoring
High Capacity
JCB is building on its successful aerial work platform line-up by adding two articulated boom machines. The A45E is a full electric version of the previous AJ48D, offering zero emission working with all of that machine’s performance, working height and forward reach. The A45EH is a diesel/electric hybrid version of the same machine, ideal for working in more remote locations where an external power supply is not readily available.
The A45E is powered by eight 6V batteries, creating a 48V, 400AH operating system. The battery packs are located on either side of the lower chassis, maintaining a low centre of gravity for added stability and improved traction. The batteries power AC drive motors via motor controllers and the machine’s hydraulic pump through a hydraulic motor controller.
The A45EH uses a 14.8kW three-cylinder diesel engine and a 7.5kWa generator to power the machine’s eight 6V batteries. The engine is mounted on a swing-out tray, making it easier to service and maintain when required. A 40-litre fuel tank provides more than enough fuel for a full week of operation, making the machine an ideal low emission platform for more remote locations. The battery can also be plugged into a mains supply if available.
Both of the platforms have four-wheel drive and two-wheel steering as standard. The wheels are driven by four AC motors and these motors recover energy through regenerative braking, to prolong battery performance. As drive is provided to each individual wheel, the machine is capable of climbing up to 40% gradients. An oscillating axle ensures that maximum traction is maintained on rough ground when the boom is stowed. However, the axle is locked, to ensure machine stability, when the machine enters boom raise mode. Foam-filled, non-marking tyres are standard.
Maximum lift
The platform has three entry points for ease of access. There are four harness clipping locations, allowing the operator full access around the basket. The platform length is 0.84m and the width is 1.84m. A secondary guarding system is provided, automatically halting boom functions when triggered, to protect the operator and prevent crushing.
The booms are equipped with a Slew Acknowledgment feature, that ensures that the operator must register if the boom is slewed over the side of the chassis before driving when elevated. A Tilt Sensor prevents machine elevation when the chassis is on unlevel ground, tilting the machine to more than 5.
Maximum platform height is 13.84m on either model, with a horizontal reach of up to 7.47m, providing an up and over clearance of 7.48m. The lift capacity for both booms is 300kg.
JCB’s LiveLink telematics monitoring system provides real-time operating data on performance, service schedules and fault codes. Managers can remotely record engine operation, low fuel warnings, tilt sensor warnings and overload warnings. LiveLink also provide battery voltage, fuel level and platform load percentage data.
The A45E and A45EH deliver a higher lift capacity, with zero emission or low-emission hybrid power. The machines offer higher levels of efficiency, with higher levels of monitoring, delivering and enhanced operator experience and increased productivity.
New friendly display
These machines are equipped with a 5” colour display on the platform, providing operators with essential data. This intuitive interface enhances safety and protectivity on the job site.
In addition, the machines feature a unique control system that eliminates the need to switch between platform controls and ground controls. Operators can seamlessly operate the machine from either location, eliminating the hassle of switching control modes.

Tax Relief Opportunities
100% Tax Relief for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Corporates
On the 15th of March 2023, the Chancellor announced a set of incentives for growth. Keen to continue to support UK businesses when the COVID recovery Super-deduction tax relief ends at the end of the month, Jeremy Hunt laid out his new measures effective from 1st April 2023.
100% tax relief will be available on eligible purchases like JCBs, plant, equipment, and commercial vehicles – offset against taxable profits via either the Annual Investment Allowance or Full Expensing.
Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) – Up to £1 Million Tax Relief £1 million tax relief
£1 million tax relief opportunity under the Annual Investment Allowance remains in place. Effectively benefitting from tax relief of £1 in taxable profits for every £1 spent on qualifying expenditure. The incentive to invest accelerates the tax relief into the year they were purchased, compared to writing down allowances (WDA), which are normally applied over several years.
This allowance is available to sole traders, partnerships and limited companies alike on qualifying new and used assets. Note cars are not eligible.
Corporation Tax Full Expensing – Unlimited Tax Relief on 100% of your investment
From 1 April 2023 until at least 31 March 2026, unlimited investments made by companies in qualifying new plant and machinery will qualify for a 100% first-year allowance for main rate assets. This means companies across the UK will be able to write off the full cost in the year of investment, known as full expensing. Expenditure on plant or machinery for leasing (likely to include non-operated plant hirers) is excluded from first -year capital allowances and cars are not eligible. In any event, speak to Tax Relief Promotion – Best Practice 3 your accountant or tax advisor for guidance if qualification for the relief is essential to your purchase decision. [inclusion of image below is optional]
Super-deduction 130% ends 31st March 2023.
This limited-time offer of enhanced tax relief formed part of the Government COVID-19 recovery package and ends as planned this March – but all is not lost. Although this incentive offered the full cost of assets plus a further 30% is deductible against corporation tax in the year the assets are bought the Corporation Tax rate applicable was 19%. When the incentive changes over to the Full Expensing allowance (100%) it coincides with the Corporation Tax increase to 25% for companies with £250,000 profits or more, so for them the net benefit is the same.
Access to Tax Relief That’s Easy on Cash Flow.
You can claim the Annual Investment Allowance and Corporation Tax full expensing relief on qualifying assets placed on Hire Purchase just as if you had paid cash; enabling you to preserve working capital, choose payment terms to suit your business and save the tax – even if only the deposit has been paid!
